Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort became Green Certified on July 27, 2009!

Travel Green Wisconsin is a voluntary program that reviews, certifies and recognizes tourism businesses and organizations that have made a commitment to reducing their environmental impact. Specifically, the program encourages participants to evaluate their operations, set goals and take specific actions towards environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The Travel Green Wisconsin program is designed to protect the beauty and vitality of Wisconsin’s landscape and natural resources.Â
Wisconsin’s natural resources, wildlife and cultural diversity are among its most important tourism assets.  Efforts to preserve them for future generations serve the best interest of Wisconsin travelers, as well as its tourism industry and the state’s overall economy.

The program is also designed to educate travelers to Wisconsin about sustainable tourism practices.  It promotes smart business practices, giving the state’s tourism-related businesses and organizations a significant point of differentiation from their competitors, and supports the state’s overall tourism brand.

What a find!

July 21st, 2009

maplewaupeeYesterday I decided to go out and check out Farm Markets I have never been too.  I printed off a list from the Door County Visitor Bureau website and off we went.  We stopped by many fruit stands but the first place we stopped was our favorite.  It’s called Maplewaupee Farm Market.  It’s on Highway 42 just 1 1/2 miles off of Highway 57.

They have homestyle preserves, fresh vegetables,  and handmade jewelry and crafts.

They are open seasonaly 9 AM – 6 PM.  If you want a nice reminder of Door County stop by Maplewaupee Farm Market!

Door County Triathlon ~~Saturday, July 18th, 2009- Sprint ~ Sunday, July 19, 2009 – Half-Iron

July 13th, 2009

door-county-triathlon-startThe Door County Peninsula is often referred to as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest.” This popular Midwestern tourist destination offers an abundance of lodging, dining, shopping and entertainment options. The sandy shorelines and majestic bluffs along Green Bay north of Sturgeon Bay provide an ideal setting for a triathlon.

Frank Murphy Park is located in Horseshoe Bay, just 15 miles north of Sturgeon Bay and 3 miles south of Egg Harbor. The park has an ornate pavilion, a sandy beach, and a permanent pier that is perfect for spectators. Several large fields directly across the road from the park’s entrance provide ample parking for participants and spectators.

The Door County Triathlon begins on the beach at Murphy Park with a swim in the shallow, crystal clear waters of Horseshoe Bay (average water temperature in late July is 70ºF). The triathlon offers two very distinct course options in both distance and degree of difficulty.

Harbor Lady Cruise

July 7th, 2009

Recently a few of us from Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort were able to go out on the Harbor Lady for an evening 20090706_7cruise in  Sturgeon Bay. The Harbor Lady offers a “Service Industry Night” so that those of us in the Service Industry can go out on a cruise and see what it’s like.

20090706_10After we left the dock, we headed out as far as Sherwood Point Lighthouse.  The picture to the left is of  Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort from the water.  It’s about a two hour cruise.  The ship offers drinks specials while you are cruising.

It was  a fun relaxing evening for everyone onboard!

A Beautiful 4th of July Weekend.

July 5th, 2009

This past weekend was the 4th of July.  I don’t think there has ever been a more beautiful weekend.  The weather was perfect and I was able to enjoy it with my parents who came to visit.

20090704_3We went to Harbor Fish Market for lunch on the 4th.  It’s a beautiful restaurant in Bailey’s Harbor and is right on Lake Michigan.  You can eat inside or outside.  We all ordered something different and everyone enjoyed a taste of each others meals.  We all agreed, everything was delicious.

We enjoyed the Art Fair in both Jacksonport and Bailey’s Harbor, we walked along the pier 20090704_8and enjoyed the view of the water.   Here is a picture of my parents on the pier.

At night, we watched the Fireworks in Sturgeon Bay on the Harbor Lady.  We saw a beautiful sunset while making our way out to our spot in the water.  The fireworks were amazing and are choreographed with music.   It was a perfect end to a perfect day!20090705_161
