pb250028Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort in Door County is a great place for a family gathering.   Recently the York Family spent Thanksgiving here.  With every room having a full kitchen, it made it easy to make their meals.   They enjoyed in pool and free board games.

Some of  them slept in on Black Friday while others ventured out at 5 AM and hit the stores in downtown Sturgeon Bay.

No matter what you decide you like to do, Westwood Shores always has something to offer.

Eli Mattson ~ Door County’s own Piano Man

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

p9240072Eli Mattson recently had two concerts at TAP, Third Avenue Playhouse, in Sturgeon Bay.

Third Avenue Playhouse began as a dream-a dream of providing a high quality, year-round community performing arts center in Door County.  Conceived in 1999 by a group of ten local visionaires, the theater first opened its doors in Fall 2000 as a fledgling communtiy theater supported by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers.

In only a little more than five years, the dream  became a reality providing a warm, welcoming environment in which family and friends can enjoy quality entertainment at an affordable price.  In addition to musical and theatrical performances, Third Avenuep92501071 Playhouse also offers classes and workshops throughout the year and is also available as a venue for civic and community organizations.

Eli Mattson was the runner up  on the third season of  America’s Got Talent.    Eli’s music is similar to Elton John and Billy Joel.  Before Eli’s debut on America’s Got Talent, he played at concerts at TAP.  His first concert this past Friday was sold out so he added another.  Three of us from Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort were lucky enough to get tickets for his first show at TAP.  This is the third time that I have personnally been to Eli’s concerts.  This time we had front row center seats!  His concerts get better and better each time I see him.  Everyone enjoyed the show and after the show he does a “meet and greet” where you can have your picture taken with Eli and get an autograph.

Eli was heading to Nashville the day after the concerts to start recording an album.  We wish Eli the best of luck in his future and can’t wait until he comes back to Door County for another concert.

maplewaupeeYesterday I decided to go out and check out Farm Markets I have never been too.  I printed off a list from the Door County Visitor Bureau website and off we went.  We stopped by many fruit stands but the first place we stopped was our favorite.  It’s called Maplewaupee Farm Market.  It’s on Highway 42 just 1 1/2 miles off of Highway 57.

They have homestyle preserves, fresh vegetables,  and handmade jewelry and crafts.

They are open seasonaly 9 AM – 6 PM.  If you want a nice reminder of Door County stop by Maplewaupee Farm Market!

Door County Triathlon ~~Saturday, July 18th, 2009- Sprint ~ Sunday, July 19, 2009 – Half-Iron

Monday, July 13th, 2009

door-county-triathlon-startThe Door County Peninsula is often referred to as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest.” This popular Midwestern tourist destination offers an abundance of lodging, dining, shopping and entertainment options. The sandy shorelines and majestic bluffs along Green Bay north of Sturgeon Bay provide an ideal setting for a triathlon.

Frank Murphy Park is located in Horseshoe Bay, just 15 miles north of Sturgeon Bay and 3 miles south of Egg Harbor. The park has an ornate pavilion, a sandy beach, and a permanent pier that is perfect for spectators. Several large fields directly across the road from the park’s entrance provide ample parking for participants and spectators.

The Door County Triathlon begins on the beach at Murphy Park with a swim in the shallow, crystal clear waters of Horseshoe Bay (average water temperature in late July is 70ºF). The triathlon offers two very distinct course options in both distance and degree of difficulty.

What a Beautiful Weekend!

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

This weekend it was finally summer in Door County.  With the temperature’s in the 80’s, many people were enjoying everything Sturgeon Bay and Door County have to offer.  I was one of those people!  I had the weekend off and my in law’s were up for a visit.

20090620_3While they were here, they stayed at Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort.  On Saturday morning  we went to the Farmer’s Market in downtown Sturgeon Bay.  Here they are standing by one of the vendors.

The Sturgeon Bay Farmers Market is unique because you will meet the people producing the food. Not only will you find your local Sturgeon Bay cherries but in addition you will locate your herbs, vegetables, fruit and discover the taste of Sturgeon Bay!  The Farmer’s Market in Market Square, in downtown Sturgeon Bay is on  Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Whenever my in laws are here, we have to go to their favorite restaurant for breakfast.  That would be the Inn at 20090621_2Cedar Crossing in Sturgeon Bay.  Here I am with Steve Hellmann.  Steve and his wife Kelly own the Inn at Cedar Crossing.  The have a great restaurant and if you are there for breakfast don’t forget to try one of their Raspberry Morning  Buns.  They are delicious!

Chef Andy’s Nautical Inn’s Rebirth!

Friday, May 8th, 2009

nautical_logo I recently had dinner at the Nautical Inn  in Sturgeon Bay and it was fantastic!  My husband and I had Prime Rib and it could melt in our mouth! Nautical Inn is Door County’s oldest tavern (since 1886).  They reopened on March 10, 2009.  When they renovated the restaurant and bar they paid careful attention to retaining the Nautical’s classic decor.  From the 1930’s bar murals to the stone fireplace in the dining room,  everything’s cleaned up, brightened up, updated as needed and ready for your approval.  The Nautical Inn is in Downtown Sturgeon Bay and close to Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort.  We have menu’s and directions just ask at the front desk when you check in!
